Agreed. Thomas Haskell wrote a wonderful review essay entitled "Objectivity Is Not Neutrality" in which he explained what it means (and doesn't mean) for historians to aim at "objective" work. It certainly doesn't mean indifference or lack of prior philosophical or ethical commitments. Many people confuse objectivity and neutrality. Douglass certainly did not.
