Wade, the Supreme Court has already dismissed the Texas case. I am not a lawyer (nor, as far as I can tell from your bio, are you), but if every legal challenge brought so far againt the results of this election has been dismissed by every single Federal judge who has had to have their time wasted considering this nonsense (including Trump appointed judges), I think it's fair to say that the challenges are entirely without merit. Ken Paxton is angling for a pardon from Trump. Maybe he'll get it, maybe he won't. But I pay about $11,000 in property taxes per year to the state of Texas, and I don't appreciate this waste of my money. A state's inability to leave the union has been settled by the Constitution as upheld by the Supreme Court in 1869. No, Texas is not "free" to leave the Union; no state is. The Union is indissoluble. So Texas is stuck with California, and vice versa. Deal with it.
